I have to confess that my heart skipped a beat ths morning as the digital clock on my desk clicked to show the time at 09:00. It gave all of us a real buzz to hear Helen Mayhew begin a whole new phase of theJazz's development, as the first presenter on the station. The rest of this weekend is now given over to our countdown of the UK's favourite 500 jazz tracks, as voted by visitors to www.thejazz.com

Now that we've properly got our programming underway, I'd like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you on behalf of everyone in theJazz team. Since we announced that the station was going to launch back in October last year, we've had a huge amount of support from jazz musicians, venues, artist managers, record companies, promoters and journalists. As we'll as that, we've recceived some wonderful letters and emails from jazz fans across the country. Thank you for giving us such a warm welcome.

We know that we're the new kids on the block and we're very grateful for all of your help and encouragement. We promise to give you the 100% jazz radio station that we believe Britain deserves. We won't let you down.
