5th March 2007

My name is Darren Henley and I'm the Managing Director of theJazz. I wanted to make sure that you know everything that's going on in the build-up to the second phase of the launch of theJazz on Friday April 6th. I'll be blogging here regularly, so you can be absolutely certain that you are the first to hear all the news about the station.

The music we play is the most important thing about theJazz and we're adding new tracks to our playlist every day. We want to make sure that we're celebrating the fantastic heritage of the great jazz recordings. And at the same time we want to champion current British jazz artists. As a music genre, jazz is very much alive and well in clubs and theatres across the country. We're very keen to give a national platform to the great artists performing every night. We'll also be bringing you the best international stars when they're in the country. One thing that we're absolutely certain about is that theJazz will be a 100% jazz radio station. We won't be diluting that proposition by playing anything else.

Since we went on air on Christmas Day, we've been overwhelmed by the huge response from new listeners to the station. Between us, we have tried to reply personally to each of the emails we've received. theJazz is very much your radio station and we really believe that it's important that you let us know what you think about everything we do. A radio station is nothing without its listeners and we want to shape theJazz according to your preferences.

We want to hear from you. So please do drop us a line using the Contact Us section of theJazz.com. And do make sure that you sign up to receive our newsletters in the future on the "Join theJazz" section. If we have your details, it means that we can email back to you with news about the radio station as things develop over the months ahead.

At the moment, we have a very small team working behind the scenes to bring theJazz to you. Here on theJazz blog, over the next few weeks, I'll introduce you to the team - both those people you'll hear on air - and those who are beavering away in the background. I'll also let you know the latest news about new presenters and programmes. Do come back soon!
